Caramel Apple Dump Cake

Caramel Apple Dump Cake

For the Filling:
6-8 apples, peeled and diced
2 tsp butter (or butter substitute)
1/2 cup water
cinnamon

For the Topping:
1 box yellow cake mix
1 tbsp brown sugar
1/2 cup (1 stick) butter/butter substitute
1 tbsp cinnamon
caramel for drizzle
vanilla ice cream (for serving)

1.Filling: Begin by washing and peeling your apples. I used York and Fiji apples. Slice them and cut them in half (how big or small you want the slices is up to you). Layer them in a 13x9 baking dish and add the water and butter, then sprinkle cinnamon on top. Bake at 350 for 20 minutes to soften and flavor the apples.

2.Topping: Remove the dish from the oven and carefully pour any excess water into a bowl (saving the liquid for later!). Drizzle caramel over the baked apples. In a bag, shake together the cake mix, cinnamon, and brown sugar. Pour evenly over top of the apples until covered. you may not need to use the entire bag of mix. Then divide the 1/2 cup of butter and layer on top of the cake mix. Return to oven and bake approximately 40-50 minutes. You can use excess water to soften spots that are a little too powdered where the butter didn't melt.

Before finishing up in the oven

3. After removing from the oven, you can drizzle some caramel over the top for garnish. Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

My friends and I couldn't wait to eat it so I had to take the picture after dessert

I hope you enjoy this gooey, warm, and delicious fall treat. Check back soon for a healthy version of a pumpkin pie. Trust me it's delicious, I've already eaten it, and you would have no idea there is no sugar added! -Emma
